Listen here.
There's a quote I keep coming back to: The perfect time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, and the second-best time is now. It's true of trees, and it's true of basically everything you've been putting off.
A lot of us wait for a new week, a new month, a new year to "finally start." But your options were never on a calendar. They've been available the whole time — it's just easier to feel permission when there's a fresh page in front of you.
You Don't Need One Big Dream - You Need To Notice The Pattern
Not everyone is born knowing their "thing." That's okay. More often, what you end up pursuing is a combination of smaller things you already love. Dance led to choreography, which led to a completely different career: Pilates instruction, with class sequencing as its own creative outlet. None of that was obvious in advance — it came from paying attention to what actually lit things up along the way.
Even further back — nail art at 12, designing shirts for dance competitions, making photo edits for fan pages — those weren't wasted phases. They were data. Look back at what you made time for before responsibility crowded it out. That's information, not nostalgia.
A Simple Framework To Close The Gap
Look at your life exactly as it is right now:
- What do you actually enjoy about it?
- What would you change or improve?
- What genuinely brings you joy — no matter how small? (Morning coffee, a walk, or reading before bed)
- Visualize or journal your dream life -- you'll probably notice your joy list is already in it — and the things you'd change are already out of it.
Once you can see the gap, the real question becomes: how do you chip away at it? Sometimes it's a perspective shift. Sometimes it's a move, a job change, or a new direction entirely. It rarely happens all at once — it happens through the one next action.
Don't Wait For A Catastrophe To Reflect
Most people only stop to reflect when something goes wrong. Build the habit before that happens. Weekly or monthly, ask: what made me happy? What didn't? Keeping even brief notes — not a full journaling practice, just a line or two — makes the pattern visible over time.
Question For August
What is the one action you can take this month that moves you measurably closer to your dream life by the end of the year? Not ten things. One. Give it a timeline, or it won't get done!
