Be Persistent To Create Your Own Luck

Why some people seem "lucky" and how you can join their ranks

What Is Luck Really?

We've all met them--those people who seem to effortlessly stumble into success. They land the dream job, build thriving businesses, or achieve their goals with what appears to be the supernatural ease. "They're just lucky," we tell ourselves.

But, what if I told you that luck isn't what you think it is?

According to Merriam-Webster, luck means "to prosper or succeed especially through chance or good fortune" or "to come upon something desirable by chance." For years, I believed some people were simply born lucky--that success was randomly distributed like winning lottery tickets.

My perspective on this has definitely changed.

The Truth About "Lucky" People

I no longer believe anyone is inherently more inclined to greatness than another. Every person on this Earth has a purpose, and when someone taps into that purpose, they become nearly unstoppable.

Does this mean smooth sailing? Absolutely not!

These seemingly "lucky" individuals face the same struggles and roadblocks as everyone else. The difference? They don't let obstacles stop them. The pull of their purpose creates an unwavering persistence that guides them through challenges toward their destination.

Why Persistence Beats Talent Every Time

Here's a scenario I've witnessed countless times: Two people start the same journey simultaneously. Person A throws tremendous energy into the beginning but quickly loses steam when results don't appear immediately. Person B maintains steady effort over time.

Guess who succeeds?

Person B wins every time--not because they're more talented or "lucky," but because they had persistence when Person A didn't.

I've experienced this pattern in my own life. When I feel genuinely called toward something, I naturally want to invest more time and energy into it. But I've also pursued things that seemed appealing initially, only to realize later they weren't aligned with my purpose.

The Courage To Pivot

Here's something crucial: recognizing when you're no longer aligned with a path isn't failure--it's wisdom.

Many people continue pushing through misaligned pursuits because they fear being labeled a "failure." In reality, staying in something that no longer serves you is the real failure. You're essentially telling yourself you're not capable of anything better.

Is pursuing what you truly want going to be easy? No! Especially not at first. But anything worth having takes time, and this brings us back to persistence.

Building Persistence: Start Small

Persistence begins with the little things in your daily routine. Every morning, ask yourself:

  • Are my daily tasks moving me closer to my goals?
  • Do my habits support my dreams?
  • What small changes can I make today?

If you're already on track, congratulations--you have a solid foundation. If not, don't worry. You just need to identify productive activities you can add to your day.

Remember: This looks different for everyone. Don't compare your routines to others unless they're someone in a position you aspire to reach. Even then, adapt their strategies to fit your circumstances rather than copying them exactly.

Scaling Up Your Persistence

Once you've mastered persistence with small daily habits, apply it to larger work tasks that advance your goals. This is especially critical for those building a business while working full-time.

You won't have unlimited time, so you'll need:

  • Time blocking for important tasks
  • Prioritization systems to focus on what matters most
  • Support systems or team members to help when possible

Implement these systems, then be persistent with them every single day.

The Marathon Mindset

When you maintain this persistence across all areas of your life, you'll start seeing remarkable changes. The pace might not match your expectations, but remember: building a life you love is a marathon, not a sprint.

By keeping up this persistence, success will begin flowing into your life. And just like that, you'll have created your own luck.

Your Next Step

The people who seem "lucky" aren't blessed with supernatural powers--they're simply persistent in pursuing their purpose. They've learned that consistent action over time creates opportunities that others mistake for chance.

So here's your challenge. Start being persistent in the small things today. Build systems that support your goals. Stay committed to your purpose, even when progress feels slow.

What's one small habit you can start today to build your persistence muscle? The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step--and that step is always persistence.
